Hey there, I graduated from Pomona in 2005. Since then, I've lived in Portland, OR.

I run Hike Yeah (www.hikeyeah.com), a podcast and blog that I started in May 2009. Last week I announced a project called Hike and Learn – it’s an opportunity for college students or recent graduates to receive a stipend to go hiking and learn about social media, two things I’m very passionate about. I hope this project appeals to OTL members as well as Sagehens seeking advice from the CDO.

Hike Yeah will provide $500 per month for two college students or recent graduates to spend summer 2010 hiking. Before they leave, I’ll meet with them and help them plan how they’ll record their stories while they’re hiking (with a journal, camera, hand-held recorder, or something similar). They’ll have plenty of stuff to talk about after a summer full of trail adventures, and upon returning, the students will receive training from me and other members of PDX.FM, Hike Yeah’s parent network, on how to use social media to tell their story. This includes podcasting, blogging, Twittering, Flickring, and simple website building, or any combination of those skills that best fits the students’ individual needs. I’ve explained the project in detail here:

If you think this is something that any Pomona students would be interested in doing, please distribute this information and encourage them to get in touch with me (hikeyeah@gmail.com).

I’ll send you a reminder email in a month. If you don’t want to receive any additional information, please just reply to this email and let me know.

All the best,

Alex
