The BFS is a field station located north of Foothill Blvd. dedicated as a resource for 5C students and faculty in biology, environmental science, and other departments. It is one of the few remaining pieces of Coastal Sage Scrub in Southern California. There are currently bids to buy 11.4 acres of this land to build parking lots and other structures. CGU and HMC are the primary bidders, and the sale is set for October 20th. Be a part of the 5C's promise to be sustainable by supporting efforts to curb development on the entire BFS. Action must be taken quickly to prevent destruction of this pristine habitat. President Oxtoby has demonstrated great apathy for this issue and has not opposed the development.
An emergency faculty forum has been called at which faculty and President Oxtoby will discuss the College's position on the sale of this land. The forum will take place in Frank Dining Hall Blue Room at luchtime on Thursday. Students will not be allowed at the meeting, but we can show our support for the BFS outside the meeting as faculty and President Oxtoby arrive.
Please join us outside Frank at 11:45 a.m. this Thursday, October 16th. Bring signs.
We will be making signs in the basement of Smith Campus Center at 9 p.m. on this Wednesday. Come join us!
