Quick, 1 question quiz:

When you see this picture , what is the first thought on your mind?

Is it:

A) Wow, those guys are freakin' dedicated, biking up that paved road on their efficiency machines.  Must be tough riding on smooth surfaces

B) Wow, what are those strange two wheeled contraption-dealies?  What manner of majiks is this?

C) ZOMG CHECKOUT THE BADASS JUMPING THE FREAKIN' TOUR DE FRANCE! HARDCORE PWNAGE!! I WANNA GO DO THAT!!!

If you answered C, you make me happy.  There are several problems with C, though:

1: Le Tour was during the summer, and fall break, strangely enough, is in fall.

II: This site is in Europe, and I will be stuck on campus/in the SoCal area during fall break working on my thesis

Tres: That's spanish for three

D: I'm not nearly badass enough yet to make a jump that huge.

With such constraints in mind, I still want to do some MTB during fall break, because my attention span isn't nearly long enough for me to work constantly in my room on chaparral regrowth patterns after brushfire.  I figured I'd try to get a few day trips lined up, maybe a total of 3 or so, departing in the mornings, get some riding in, then come back and do work, procrastinate, do more work, probably eat some dinner, hang out with friends, maybe throw a frisbee, check FB and email, work some more, brush my teeth, shower, yell about being bored, lie down in bed, take forever to fall asleep, dream about biking, wake up from a scary nightmare, run to Chris' room and cower while he reassures me that the monsters are just in my imagination, get lulled back to sleep by his melodious voice, wake up in the morning and repeat.

Where we go is entirely up to car availability and people's ideas of trails they'd like to do.  I've got a few I certainly wouldn't mind checking out if we can get transportation (El Moro,  Chilao, etc), but even failing that there are a few near enough that we could just bike over to them and ride there (Marshall Canyon, Bonelli Park).  We could even do a barbeque at one of the sweet new outdoor grillz at Pomona one night.

So, recap, using semi-colons (most likely improperly, but they're underused so I like to give them a chance): I'm stuck on campus working on thesis for fall break; I've got the attention span of a 5 year old loaded up on lucky charms, capri sun, and raw sugar, let loose within FAO Schwarz; I love Mountain Biking as a way to get rid of energy, and so will be leading morning trail rides based from campus; You should join me because you're in a similar situation.

Trip size is limited to 10, but this more depends on how many vehicles we have and how many people are competent enough that I don't really have to worry about them on the trail too much, so sign up whether you're good/bad/trips full, and let me know your level of competency on a bike through an email or something.

Here's another awesome picture for no apparent reason:

Also, sidenote, but important, we want to avoid this:

I understand that as a Participant in the Activity I could sustain serious personal injuries, illness, property damage, or even death as a consequence of not only Pomona's actions or inactions, but also the actions, inactions, negligence or fault of others, and that there may be other risks not known to me or not reasonably foreseeable at this time.
