Life moves pretty fast; and if you don't stop and look around every once in a while, you're going to miss it.

So, here's the what's up- we're leaving on Sunday morning at some god-awful time of day and driving out to the Kolob Canyon area of Zion Nat'l Park in Utah. We'll get there around noon, get our backcountry passes, and hike a few miles into our first camp. Next morning, we hike another 3-ish miles into the main camp, then spend the next two days chilling there or checking out Kolob Arch (the world's largest freestanding arch. Yeah, it's kinda a big deal) or hiking into the surrounding slot canyons. We leave on Wednesday, hit the car, and then go to Snow Canyon, also in the fine state of Utah. We're there for two nights, then we're hauling back home.

Here's the rub: When you think of the Southwest, you think airlines and hot deserts. Desserts... deserts? ...anyways, T'aint so, my friends. Kolob is shaping up to be under a bit of snow. What with this weird weather we're getting, and the 6000 foot elevation, we're gonna be camping on snow in Kolob (prolly not in Snow Canyon, ironically). This means that this trip is not for the faint of heart or the faint of butt.

But really, if you don't know how to snow camp, or if you don't have warm warm clothing that will keep you very very dry, you don't want to do this. Just a warning.

So now that the scary warning part is out of the way, this trip is going to be amazing. The backpacking isn't that intense (6 miles is the max per day) and the scenery is going to be freaking amazing. Plus, we may be able to get some rock climbing in at Snow Canyon, too.

Oh, and don't worry about paying for mileage on the car- we'll drive it backwards on the way home... They'll never know it was gone.

Summary: Snow Camping in a very secluded section of Zion National Park, followed by car camping at an amazing state park. Leave on Sunday of Spring Break, get back Friday. Because of camping regulations, only 7 spots.

We will have two cars heading out...one of which will leave midmorning Thursday to be back that night. Noboby has to leave before Friday...but this is an option!

This is what Kolob will probably look like:
